			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Who dreams about <strong>living with sickness</strong>?  Sounds like a dumb question, doesn’t it.</p>
<p>Most people, these days, believe they are healthy if they haven’t been diagnosed with a condition.</p>
<ol>
<li>When they feel “off” they ignore it &#8230; and soldier on.</li>
<li>When the feeling persists, or it gets worse, they schedule an appointment with a physician.</li>
</ol>
<p><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/prescription-772165.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2598" style="margin-left: 15px; margin-right: 15px;" title="prescription-772165" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/prescription-772165-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>Once they receive that all-important diagnosis, they believe a pill, treatment or technological intervention will intercede on their behalf to restore their health.</p>
<p>And, if they&#8217;re lucky enough to have an infection or injury, their condition goes away and so does  the prescription.  It reinforces their beliefs &#8230; there is a magic bullet.</p>
<p>So, next time they follow this same scenario.</p>
<p><strong>If it doesn&#8217;t work, they climb on the merry-go-round of living with sickness.</strong></p>
<p><strong>The 1<sup>st</sup> sign,</strong> that their belief was in error, is when their condition doesn’t go away and it requires management with medication.</p>
<p>It is that precise moment, when people start taking a medicine to help them deal with their abnormal state &#8211; the symptom of sickness &#8211; when they need to be aware their life might be changing &#8211; that they will be living with sickness for a long time.</p>
<p>And if asked, the physician who prescribes the medicine will readily admit that person will be taking the medicine for the rest of their life – because the condition won’t go away by itself.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>SO IT BEGINS &#8230; living with sickness and living with side effects of the medicine.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/guy24.jpg"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-2599 alignright" style="margin-left: 15px; margin-right: 15px;" title="guy2" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/guy24-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>The 2<sup>nd</sup></strong> warning sign, a stop sign really, is when another situation arises that requires more management, because now their life is being defined by their “managed sickness” and the medicines that are prescribed to manage their condition(s) of declining health.</p>
<p><strong>Now, they’ve bought the e-ticket for the ride on the sickness merry-go-round.</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>&#8230; </strong>another trip around</li>
<li>&#8230; trying to grasp the elusive brass ring</li>
<li>&#8230; hoping for another chance</li>
<li>&#8230;  next time around</li>
</ol>
<h3><span style="color: #333399;"><strong>How to Change the Scenario for a Different Outcome</strong></span></h3>
<p><strong>Let’s start with a basic definition:</strong>  The Merriman-Webster Dictionary definition for disease is; …<em> a condition that prevents the body or mind from working normally</em>.  <em>Dis</em> means: being without – <em>ease</em> means: comfort.  <em>(NOTE:  Today, the meaning of the word “disease” is being used to describe a medical diagnosis.)</em></p>
<p><strong>Then, let’s add an irrefutable piece of science:</strong> The body requires adequate amounts of water, nutritious food, moderate exercise and adequate rest to function normally.</p>
<p><strong>Next, let’s reach logical working theory</strong>:  when the body isn’t functioning normally, it may be deficient in adequate amounts of water and/or nutritious food, and/or moderate exercise and/or adequate rest.  When the deficiency is resolved, normal function may resume.</p>
<p><strong>Now, let’s test the theory against reality:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Most people think “<em>they eat pretty good</em>” when, in fact, they don’t.  The vast majority, while they have a passing familiarity with the Balanced Diet, seldom hit the daily recommendations for a balanced, healthy diet.</li>
<li>Most people fail to achieve the required unmanaged 8 hours of sleep each night. (Pills don’t count!)</li>
<li>Most people fail to achieve even 20 minutes of walking each day, the rest over exert themselves with strenuous exercise.</li>
</ol>
<p>And, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.</p>
<p>Dependent children exhibit similar characteristics.  Obesity, hyper-activity, moods, concentration, to name just a few, could be attributed to similar issues.  And, after they’re grown, they simply keep on keeping on. </p>
<p><strong><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/downwardgraph1.jpg"><img class="alignleft" style="margin-left: 15px; margin-right: 15px;" title="downwardgraph" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/downwardgraph1-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a>It is a cycle of creating sickness through diet and lifestyle.</strong></p>
<p>I’ve written several versions of this same message.  My two favorites are titled:  <em>The Missing Diagnosis:  Hand to Mouth Disease</em> and <em>Chemcuisine – the New Standard American Diet.  </em>These two articles highlight the point that the food most people are consuming does not reach the level of nutrition that the body requires to stay healthy<em>. (NOTE:  They are both </em><a href="http://nupro.net/news/"><em>available on the blog</em></a><em> for your review.)</em></p>
<p>Young or old, male or female – the food you are consuming and the things you do, on a daily basis, guaranties that you will be living with sickness – for a long time &#8211; or not.</p>

<p align="left">It&#8217;s too bad, because virtually all of the recommendations emanating for the &#8220;medical experts&#8221; are predicated on the assumption that you are eating this &#8220;Balanced Diet&#8221;.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>When asked, </strong>most people will tell you they eat &#8220;pretty good.&#8221; </p>
<p align="left"><strong>But, the fact is </strong>they are not eating any where near what the body needs to stay healthy.</p>

<p align="left">Joel Wallach dramatizes this issue, in his controversial presentation <strong>&#8220;Dead Doctors Don&#8217;t Lie&#8221;</strong>, when he explains:&#8221;&#8230; <em>if you bring home bags of cans, boxes and bags of food, from the supermarket, you would be better off throwing away the contents and eating the packaging</em>.&#8221;</p>
<p align="left"><strong></strong> <strong><span style="color: #336699; font-size: small;">Discussion</span></strong></p>
<p align="left"><strong>There is a litany of health concerns that can be attributed to this blind spot regarding what people are consuming.</strong></p>
<p align="left">The difference between what you are consuming and what your body needs, to stay healthy and flourish, leads to the predictable decline in health that is plaguing adult men, women and now teens and children.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">While the Medical community has ascribed any number of names for the symptoms afflicting their patients, most of their complaints boil down to a single diagnosis: <a title="You Are What You Eat" href="file:///W:/store/handtomouthdisease.asp" target="_blank">Hand to Mouth Disease</a>.</p>

<p align="left"><a title="How the body works" href="file:///W:/store/caringforyourbody.asp">Caring for the needs of your body</a> may be the most important task you have, because all those other things, that you have prioritized above treating your body kindly, won&#8217;t matter once you have lost your health.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>Amazing as it may seem, most adults, teens and children in this land of plenty are malnourished. </strong> Certainly, they&#8217;re not starving, but they are lacking the basic nutrition their bodies require to function and flourish.</p>

<div align="left">Managing the symptoms of declining health with Doctors, specialists and prescriptions</div>

</li>
</ol>
<p align="left"> &#8230; IS BIG BUSINESS.<strong>  And, it&#8217;s growing</strong>.</p>

<p align="left"><strong></strong>Too many people believe that &#8220;showing up&#8221; is enough; that technology and expertise will win the day.</p>

<p align="left"><strong>Here&#8217;s the travesty</strong>:  the person, who is beneficiary of the effort, often continues to practice the same dietary and lifestyle choices that delivered him or her to this predicament.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>As of this writing, instances of lung cancer are decreasing in the general population.</strong><br />
The report rightly attributes the change to a person&#8217;s choice to stop smoking.  After all of the suffering, effort and expense, lung cancer is succumbing to a lifestyle change &#8211; the decision to stop smoking.</p>
<p align="left"><strong>Why?  Because people started &#8220;getting it&#8221; &#8211; they started showing up.</strong><br />
People stopped smoking. That choice changes the predictable outcome: smoking increase instances of Lung Cancer.  People became part of the &#8220;<em>cure</em>&#8221; by making a different lifestyle choice.</p>
<p align="left"><span style="color: #333399;"><strong>Conclusion</strong></span></p>
<p align="left"><strong>You can change the way things are by changing the things you do.</strong></p>

<p><em><span style="text-decoration: none;">The American Journal of Preventive Medicine</span></em> published a study, <a href="http://www.ajpmonline.org/webfiles/images/journals/amepre/AMEPRE_3338%5b3%5d-stamped.pdf" target="_blank">Successful Weight Loss Among Obese U.S. Adults, April, 2012</a> that concluded:</p>
<ol>
<li>2/3 of Americans, who are overweight, try to lose weight.</li>
<li>Of them, 40% are successful, at least in the short term.”</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>How?</strong>  … The “old school way” – by eating less, exercising more and switching to a more healthful diet.</p>
<ol>
<li>Of the <strong>successful dieters</strong>:  65% ate less food, 44% ate less fat, 41% switched to food with fewer calories; 4% took medicine prescribed by a doctor.</li>
<li>Of the <strong>unsuccessful dieters</strong>:  41% drank more water, 14% ate “diet foods or products”, 10% used nonprescription diet pills, or herbal remedies, 7% adopted a “liquid diet formula”.</li>
</ol>

has been the “solution” for weight gain for, at least, the <span style="color: #000000;">past 50 years</span><br />
<span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>and it hasn’t worked yet! </strong></span></p>
<p><strong>The rate obesity and being overweight is growing &#8211; almost exponentially </strong>- for adults and children, alike .</p>
<p><strong>Why?  </strong>The two qualifiers contained in this study tells it all:</p>

<li>…at least, in the short term.  You know what happens, after.</li>

dooms people to a fate of being fat, tired and sick.</strong></span></p>

<p><strong>“Things” are food that have a proper name</strong>.  Tomato, for example, is a thing.</p>
<p><strong>“Stuff” is a brand or vernacular name</strong>.  Katsup, for example, is stuff.  Wheat? &#8211; Thing; Flour? &#8211; Stuff;  Potato? &#8211; Thing;  French Fries? &#8211; Stuff;  Home Cooked Meal? – Thing;  Take out? – Stuff.</p>
<p><strong>How Can You Recognize the Difference?</strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"> <strong>“Stuff”: <a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/packagedfood.jpg"><span style="color: #ff0000;"><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-2376" style="margin-left: 20px; margin-right: 20px;" title="packagedfood" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/packagedfood-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></span></a></strong></span></p>

<li>Comes in a box, bag or can</li>
<li>Advertised on and in various media, depending on the target audience, featuring some sort of mascot, model or spokesperson</li>
<li>Has a trademark</li>
<li>Occupy most of the selves in the Supermarket</li>
<li>Contain: white flour, table salt, sugar (table and of course:  high fructose fruit juice, tropical fruit and corn syrup), starchy grains and starch, underground vegetables.</li>
</ul>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>“Things” don’t.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/red_asterisk1.gif"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-2380" style="margin-left: 20px; margin-right: 20px;" title="red_asterisk" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/red_asterisk1.gif" alt="" width="50" height="45" /></a>Here are the “take aways” from this:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Eating mostly “things” will produce health and weight loss.</li>
<li>Eating mostly “stuff” will produce unhealth (Is that even a word?) and weight gain.</li>
<li>Regardless of what you hear or read, or what the label says, <strong>“stuff” is not a “thing”</strong>.</li>
<li>If your objective is: to lose weight, or to protect your health, or improve your health, you need to be <strong>consuming more “things” than “stuff”.</strong></li>
<li>Supplements are “things” that fill the gap in your diet, when you can’t or won’t eat enough “things”</li>

<p><strong>So, It’s Up To You.</strong></span></span>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Goldilocks fable involves a little girl who trespasses in the home of a family of three bears.</p>
<p>Once inside, she:</p>
<ul>
<li>Sampled their meal exclaiming “… too hot, too cold, just right!”, so she ate that bowl of porridge.</li>
<li>Sampled their chairs exclaiming “… too big, too small, just right!”, so she sat in that chair.</li>
<li>Sampled their beds exclaiming “… too hard, too soft, just right!”, so she fell asleep in that bed.</li>
</ul>
<p>Of course, the fable goes on for the purpose of establishing a moral, through story, for children to carry into adulthood.  Stick with me, there is a point to be made here about your health.</p>
<p align="center"><strong>Too Much, Too Little, Just Right</strong></p>
<p>The world we live in encourages immoderate choices in:</p>
<ul>
<li>Work, Family, Self</li>
<li>Diet, Exercise, Lifestyle</li>
<li>Health, Declining Health, Failing Health</li>
</ul>
<p>And, <strong>there is a tendency to separate these choices, when, in fact they are interconnected</strong>.</p>
<p>The 3<sup>rd</sup> example, health, declining health and failing health  illustrates the connectivity.</p>
<p>But first, some definitions are in order.</p>
<p><strong>There are 3 states of health:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Health is, for most people, is a state of ignorant bliss</strong>; punctuated with the delusion that the state of “being healthy” is a forever thing.</li>
<li><strong>Declining health is a state of inconvenience</strong>; punctuated with the delusion that a remedy, drug store or a prescription, can make the inconvenience go away.</li>
<li><strong>Failing health is a state disbelief</strong>; punctuated with the delusion that some medical, non-medical or spiritual intervention can make the misery and suffering go away.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The interconnectivity between health and work, family and self is obvious.</strong></p>
<p>A person, who finds themself on this predictable path of declining health, will experience big changes at work, in their family life and a decline in their physical and emotional well-being.</p>
<p>And, when the hand writing starts to show up on the wall &#8211; their state of health is in full-blown decline &#8211; people are bombarded with advertisements that support the false belief that technology will erase thier story that is unfolding.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;" align="center"><strong>The culprit, in this bleak scenario, is the state of ignorant bliss that accompanies health.  </strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;" align="center"><strong>People falsely believe that:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>
<div style="text-align: left;" align="center"> Health is permanent</div>
</li>
<li>
<div style="text-align: left;" align="center">It happens automatically</div>
</li>
<li>
<div style="text-align: left;" align="center">A fix is one phone call away</div>
</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>In a perfect world people wouldn’t face this dilemma because:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The air and water would be pristine</li>
<li>The nutritional thresholds, necessary to sustain a health body, would be met from the food that is consumed</li>
<li>Personal and interpersonal interactions would be void of conflict</li>
<li>Mary Poppins would make your decisions for you</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Oh well &#8211; the world isn’t perfect.</strong></p>
<ol style="text-align: left;">
<li>The air and water could be better</li>
<li>Commercial food products aren’t what they’re trumped up to be</li>
<li>People are buggers</li>
<li>Mary Poppins isn’t on-call to make your boo-boos go away</li>
</ol>
<h3 style="text-align: left;" align="center">So, It’s Up To You.</h3>
<p><strong>You only need to know three rules:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Let your conscience be your guide</li>
<li>What you do occasionally won’t hurt you &#8211; it’s what you do every day that helps you</li>
<li>What you don’t know can hurt you</li>
</ol>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Ignorance is not bliss, nor is it an excuse,</strong></span><br />
<span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>because you will experience the consequences of your choices.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>On matters of diet:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Eat as close to a balanced diet as possible, then fill the gap with fundamental nutritional supplements (<em>If you are experiencing any lingering health concerns, there are supplements for specific needs to help address them, too.)</em>

<p>And, the older I am, the more I rely on that little voice that we all hear.</p>

<p>Looking back, the things I regret most were failures of conscience – the times I didn’t hear or listen to my little voice.  And, some of those lapses resulted in more than regrets – they had consequences.</p>
<p>After you consider what I have just written, take a moment to focus your thoughts toward the meals you, and your family, are consuming every day.</p>
<p>Now, consider what your little voice is telling you about that choice.  Are you basking in the glow of Radiant Health or are you hearing the moans and groans of declining or failing health?</p>
<p><strong>These moans and groans are classified, medically, as indicators of degenerative disease.</strong>  They are a whole litany of health complaints that occur because the body isn’t working right.</p>
<p><strong>Complaints like:</strong></p>

<td valign="top" width="294">Anxiety</td>
</tr>
<tr>

<td valign="top" width="294"></td>

<p><strong>… are just a few examples of the moans and groans associated with declining health.</strong></p>
<p>They are complaints that are often managed with prescriptive or over the counter medications to silence the little voice that is trying to warn you about the decline of the efficiency of your healthy body with symptoms.</p>
<p>And, they are the predictors of the Big 5 killers:  Cancer, Diabetes, Stroke, Heart Attack, and Chronic Respiratory Disease &#8211; the diseases that are seldom cured &#8211; just managed for a slower descent to a predictable, suffering end.</p>
<p><strong>Knowingly or unknowingly, peoples’ fate is predictable when they ignore or try to silence their little voice.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Who thinks they know what makes up a good diet?</li>
<li>Who thinks they know what to do to compensate for a “not so good” diet?</li>
<li>Who thinks Supermarkets sell food?</li>
<li>Who believes that snack, fast and factory food &#8211; laced with sugar, salt and chemicals &#8211; is good for your body, your spouse or your children?</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>It is </strong>the lure of convenience, the seduction of addictive salt and sweets, and the barrage of chemicals, contained in nutrient depleted factory food <strong>that starts the moans, groans and declining health</strong>.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>The simple truth is</strong>:</span>  <strong><em>If your meals consist of food that comes in a bag, box or can, you should throw it away and eat the packaging.</em></strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Your body knows …</li>
<li>It is trying to tell you to stop …</li>
<li>If you would only listen and take the appropriate action.</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>So … Who do you Trust?</strong></p>
<p><strong>Is it:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>A stranger with a brief case (expert)?</li>
<li>A likable guy with a diploma?</li>
<li>A TV personality?</li>
<li>A neighbor who “knows something or someone”?</li>
<li>An ad on TV or …?</li>
<li>Any straw that might stop you from sinking into the abyss of failing health?</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>… or is it good ol’ common sense?</strong></p>
<p>Everything of value &#8211; your car, appliance, electronic device you own comes with an owner’s manual to advise you about its care and maintenance – except your most valuable asset – your body.</p>
<p>What if you could get the manual for $20.00?  Would you <a href="/creating-radiant-health/" target="_blank">buy it</a>?</p>
<p>I may be just another one of those strangers with a briefcase, or not.  You’ll need to decide for yourself.  But, I’ll tell you this – it is easier to stay healthy than it is to get healthy once you’re not.  It’s your life – it’s your choice.</p>

<p><strong>Who thinks that taking a daily multi-vitamin is not the healthy thing to do?</strong>  Anyone?</p>
<p>When people are asked to say why they take a particular supplement, they will smile and answer: “ <em>… because it’s good for me</em>”</p>
<p><strong>Seriously, why do people take a particular supplement?</strong> It’s because they have read or heard about the benefits, and they want them.  For example:  One a Day … it’s easy; Special Greek Yogurt … regularity; Calcium … strong bones; Vitamin D … the sunshine vitamin.</p>
<p>Dutifully, people:</p>
<ol>
<li>Go to the Big Box Store, Vitamin Store or the web</li>
<li>Review their options (or ask the clerk)</li>
<li>Make a price decision</li>
<li>Pay</li>
<li>Go home and start taking their vitamin the next morning</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>The next time</strong> they read or hear a benefit statement they may want, people repeat the cycle and buy that one, too.</p>
<p><strong>And, so it goes</strong>.  People end up taking a hand full of low priced pills, every morning, and, probably, with a cabinet full of expired bottles of “vitamins” that they purchased at one time, or another, for one reason, or another (that they can’t remember).</p>
<p>NOTE:  It is impossible to take the benefit statements out of advertising.  If the advertisers stopped including the benefit statement, it would be called begging and that doesn’t always have the same effect as the benefit statement.</p>
<p><strong>Let’s take another look at this process.</strong></p>
<p>The logic is just fine – supplements can be good for you.</p>
<p>But, when people put it into action, then the process is missing the most important piece – a plan.  That missing piece allows the whole thing to spin off in all sorts of unexpected directions.</p>
<p><strong>DISCUSSION</strong></p>
<p>Let’s examine the logic.</p>
<p><strong>1<sup>st</sup></strong>, supplements are good for people because they fill the nutritional gaps in the daily diets that would otherwise contribute to a decline in their health.   Consequently, choosing, and using, a supplement, or group of supplements, to fill the holes in a balanced daily diet, created by people’s preferences and situations, will contribute to a healthy, alert and energized condition.</p>

<p><strong>As it happens, nothing happened to Pluto</strong> – except the rules.  Astronomers decided size matters; and since poor ol’ Pluto didn’t measure up – poof, it’s gone.  But, it’s still out there – orbiting the sun – in the same place!</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Here’s another example of dogma being confused with fact.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/pasteur.jpg"><img class="alignleft  wp-image-1968" style="margin: 10px 15px;" title="pasteur" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/pasteur.jpg" alt="Louis Pasteur:  circa:  1871" width="170" height="210" /></a>In the late 18<sup>th</sup> century, </strong>three scientists fought it out over competing theories of disease – <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Pasteur">Louis Pasteur</a>, the father of <strong>conventional medicine</strong> versus <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Bernard">Claude Bernard</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_B%C3%A9champ">Antoine Bechamp</a>, proponents of <strong>alternative medicine</strong>.</p>
<p>One side, Pasteur&#8217;s, believed that germs, from outside the body, were the source of all diseases.</p>
<p>The other side felt disease followed imbalances inside the body and that the imbalance triggered <a href="http://www.squidoo.com/bechamp">a change in a normally symbiotic microbe</a>, contained within the human body, which triggered the decay of tissue, organs and disease.</p>
<p>Dubbed, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microzyme">Zymotic Disease</a> by the proponents of alternative medicine,  the latter had a similar fate to that of Copernicus, while Pasteur’s <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germ_theory_of_disease">Germ Theory of Disease</a> became the foundation of conventional medicine.</p>
<p>The nature of the competition between these two theories, conventional medicine or alternative medicine,  has been dramatized by repeating an anecdotal death-bed statement, by a repentant Pasteur, <strong><em>&#8220;It is not the germ that causes disease but the terrain in which the germ is found.”</em></strong><strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>None the less</strong>, building on past success with penicillin’s ability to kill bacteria, practitioners of conventional medicine, today’s physicians, who are supported with pharmaceuticals to “manage” a particular condition, seek external factors that cause a diagnosed condition and substances and use machines and/or medical methods to eradicate that &#8220;disease causing factor&#8221; – with varying degress of success.</p>
<p><strong>Apparently, the medical controversy about the causes of disease wasn’t settled.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Perhaps it’s time to dust off the old theory and take a closer look.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Could</strong>, as Bernard and Bechamp&#8217;s work shows, <em>the inner condition and health of the cells</em> (sometimes described as the &#8220;terrain&#8221; in works of the time) determine whether disease would manifest or spread in the body?</li>
<li> <strong>Could</strong> factors, like poor diet, stress, lack of rest and life style choices, be the catalysts that alter the “internal terrain” of the body that give rise to the conditions that plague the industrialized world?</li>
<li><strong>Could</strong> that “friendly” microbe, the microzyma (named by Bechamp), change into the predator that is decaying the body, little by little &#8211; from the inside, be the culprit?</li>
<li><strong>What if</strong> adequate sleep, relaxation, moderate lifestyle choices, mild exercise and a balanced diet is the prescription for a long life and a healthy death?</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>The inescapable fact is:  what we are doing doesn&#8217;t alway work.</strong></p>
<p>The chances of succumbing to one or more of the degenerative diseases: Heart and Cardiovascular disease, Cancer, Respiratory disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Lung disease, Kidney disease and suicide, is greater than ever before.</p>
<p><strong>Odds are, a person will be a statistic sometime during life</strong> – if he or she isn’t now.  After spending billions of dollars on the theory of conventional medicine:  searching for cures, managing disease, medical treatments with surgeries and machines, poking and proding, enduring the heartache of declining health and financial ruin, people are worse off.</p>
<p><strong>Oddly enough</strong>, the factors that may be affecting the internal terrain of the body are manageable.  They are simply choices that people make.</p>

<li>Anything else, except clean water to drink</li>
<li>Too much or too little exercise</li>
<li>Inadequate sleep</li>
<li>Lack of relaxation</li>
<li>Risky life styles</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>People make excuses for their choices.</strong>  It’s the kids’ schedule … It’s the boss … It costs too much … It’s the commute … It’s the ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­_______ (fill in the blank).</p>
<p><strong>And, just as perplexing, people are dumb-struck</strong> when they are forced to confront a very predictable situation – their failed health.</p>
<p>Years ago, the makers of Fram oil filters produced a television commercial that featured an oil soaked mechanic who said “<em>Pay me now, or pay more, later</em>.”, insinuating that investing in an oil change and a $3.00 Fram oil filter, now, is better than replacing the engine in your car – later.</p>
<p><strong>Likewise, treating your body with respect, now, will pay dividends – now and in the future</strong>.  And, in this case, this body is the only one you’ll ever be issued.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Saturday morning hosts, on the local radio station, were talking about <strong>childhood obesity</strong>.  They rambled on about the usual “culprits”:  lack of exercise and PE classes, vending machines, school lunches and fast food; until they hit on the factoid that most overweight children are undernourished.</p>
<p><strong><a href="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ostrichinsand1.jpg"><img class="alignright" style="margin-left: 7px; margin-right: 7px;" title="ostrichinsand" src="http://americanutra.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ostrichinsand1.jpg" alt="" width="155" height="103" /></a>Both hosts were mystified</strong>.  The discussion intensified while they kept asking:  “<em>How can overweight kids be undernourished?</em>”   Somehow, they were unable to differentiate between having a full belly and consuming a nourishing diet.</p>
<p><strong>Being overweight, or obese, is a cultural problem that isn’t limited to children.</strong>  This confusion of “filling our stomachs” with whatever, as long as it is fast and convenient, is making people fat and malnourished.</p>
<p>Fast and convenient manufactured foods are exceeding the caloric values required to energize the body and not meeting the nutritional values that are required to sustain a healthy body.  The decision to consume that bill-of-fare is making people fat and not healthy.  <em>Suggested reading</em>:   <a href="/the-new-standard-american-diet-chemcuisine/">Chemcuisine, the New Standard American Diet</a></p>

<p><strong>The likelihood of success, from this fruitless effort, is zero.</strong></p>

<p><strong>The cry, on the other side of the debate is: “Promote the balanced diet!”</strong> so, researchers, Universities and nutritionists are bombarding the Public information and food-value advertising.</p>

<p>When I saw the commercial, it triggered a memory of my grandmother.  Her favorite saying was “<em>You are what you eat</em>.”  When I was little, she applied this phrase when she was cooking, tending her garden or on the occasion when she scorned me for over indulging myself with foods she deemed unhealthy.</p>
<p>Of course, as a child, I perceived these constant reminders as harping and, after 60 years, I can still hear her admonitions.  Even today, each time I consider an indiscretion, I hear her voice asking me “<em>Do you really think that’s a good idea?</em>”</p>
<p><strong>Did you have a Grandmother like mine?</strong></p>
<p>I’m grateful for mine.  She didn’t care for white bread.  She would tell me:  “<em>The whiter the bread, the shorter your life</em>.” Even though we milked cows, she insisted we moderate eating cheese, butter and drinking milk to keep our lungs clear.  When I was a teenager, she attributed any complexion issues to “<em>too much milk.</em>”  She insisted that sugar would rot my teeth.   Kids, who were <em>heavy</em>, which was rare, are “<em>eating too many sweets and drinking too much milk</em>”, according to Grandmother.  Usually, she would finish this observation with “… <em>that mother should know better!</em>”</p>
